NEWS - Wells Fargo announces $2 billion lending goal to black business owners
After reaching its goal to lend $1 billion to African American business owners by 2010 earlier this year, Wells Fargo (NYSE:WFC) has announced a goal to lend an additional $1 billion by 2018, expanding the cumulative goal to $2 billion. The announcement was made as Wells Fargo celebrates the 10th anniversary of its African American Business Services program. Through alliances with national and regional organizations supporting the African American community, Wells Fargo provides outreach and education to African American business owners, increasing their access to capital and other financial services.
Reaching our $1 billion goal two years early is a testament to the growth and entrepreneurial vision of this important segment of the U.S. economy, said Brenda Ross-Dulan, senior vice president and national spokesperson for Wells Fargo's African American Business Services program. It also exemplifies Wells Fargo's commitment to satisfying the financial services needs of African American business owners nationwide.

NEWS - BLACK DELEGATES DWINDLING AT GOP CONVENTION: Current event has fewest African American representation in 40 years.
One thing becomes glaringly apparent while scanning the floor of this week's Republican National Convention in Minneapolis/St. Paul. It's very white. In fact, the 2008 GOP event has the lowest number of African American delegates since 1968, according to a convention guide released to delegates this week by the nonpartisan research institution, Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies.
After seating a record number of African American delegates in 2004 (6.7 percent), blacks comprise only 1.5 percent of the total number of GOP delegates this year, according to the Joint Center, which focuses on minority issues. The 36 black delegates in 2008 represent a 78.4 percent decline from the 167 black delegates at the 2004 GOP convention.

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS - Music Review: Terrence Howard's New CD Shows Promise
Actor Terrence Howard gave a hint of his musical skills when he played an aspiring rapper in the 2005 film "Hustle & Flow." Howard performed the movie's catchiest tune, "It's Hard Out Here for a Pimp," which went on to win the Academy Award for best original song.
The actor didn't write that song, but he wrote, arranged, produced and performed on all 11 tracks on his debut album, "Shine Through It," making good on his longtime musical aspirations. The album is a satisfying sampler of Howard's skills and varied influences. There are Latin rhythms, island beats, soaring strings and jazzy horns surrounding lyrics about love, life, youth and yearning.
